Judiciarys role in promoting ease of doing business
The judiciary plays a key role in influencing the level of business confidence and the ease of doing business. The Indonesian judiciary is implementing a number of reforms to strengthen its performance in hearing contract disputes and resolving insolvencies, both of which are currently perceived to create problems for effective business.
On 7 March, AIPJ and AIPEG (Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Governance) supported the Supreme Court to host an important dialogue involving government, business and the judiciary on improving the ease of doing business in Indonesia. Joining key note speakers - Co-ordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution and Chief Justice Hatta Ali – were Chief Justice of the Federal Court James Allsop, Justice Syamsul Maarif of the Supreme Court Civil Chamber and Ibu Farah Ratna Dewi Indriani of the Indonesian Investment Board, moderated by Justice Agung Sumanatha, also of the the Supreme Court Civil Chamber.
