The Deputy Governor launching the Regional Action Plan for Corruption Prevention and Eradication

NTB province commits to being corruption-free

"Corruption is not only practiced by those with power, but also occurs throughout lower levels of the bureaucracy," said Deputy Governor Muhammad Amin at the opening of an Anti-Corruption workshop on Accountable Fiscal Management. "Sadly, corruption can be systemic within organisations, and because of this we need to understand good financial management," he added.

The event held on 11 December 2013 in Mataram was attended by officials from local government offices (SKPD), the Local Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), universities, and media. The Deputy Governor also launched the Regional Action Plan for Corruption Prevention and Eradication (ADPPK) and made a commitment to make NTB a corruption-free province. The action plan includes a mentoring program so that civil society organisations and community groups can monitor budget expenditure.

According to NTB Head of Bappeda, Chairul Mahsul NTB is the first province to incorporate local ideas into the draft that was prepared in consultation with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the National Ombudsman, and the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas). "It will take the commitment and cooperation of all parties, including the public to make NTB a corruption-free province and make corruption a common enemy," he said.

From September to November 2013, AIPJ provided strategic guidance to the drafting team by acting as a liaison with the KPK and Bappenas. This approach has ensured a comprehensive strategy more in line with the national program. Following the launch of the strategy, the provincial government will conduct pilots immediately in Mataram and Bima.
