Risks of demanding a luxury lifestyle exposed in NTB anti-corruption seminar

Mataram, 4-5 February 2014. The local government of NTB held an anti-corruption seminar involving more than 300 participants from local women’s organisations. The Anti-Corruption Education for Families seminar was opened by the Governor of NTB, Muhammad Zainul Majdi with his wife Erika delivering the keynote speech. Other speakers included Busyro Muqoddas from the KPK, and Gandjar Bonaparta from the University of Indonesia.

"NTB is the first region to incorporate local ideas into their draft corruption strategy. We consulted with the KPK, the Ombudsman, and Bappenas," said Head of Planning, Chairul Mahsul.

"The Commission's efforts to prevent corruption in Indonesia start with the family,” said Busyro speaking on live talk shows about the campaign. This includes husbands and wives of government officials who should be aware of the risks of demanding a luxury lifestyle. “It’s these expectations that lead to corruption,” he said.

The event was part of the Community Empowerment Program in the Prevention of Corruption in NTB. It was promoted by the Directorate of Education, KPK and supported by AIPJ.
