AIPJ's expanded program to have more direct links to poverty reduction

AIPJ’s program is in the process of being realigned so that it more directly addresses Bappenas’ National Access to Justice Strategy. This will give program activities a stronger focus on Indonesia’s efforts to reduce and overcome poverty.

The new focus will be Realising Rights, a fundamental strategy to economic empowerment. Poverty is not just about access to economic resources but about the denial of basic rights and the unequal ability to live with dignity.

AIPJ will focus on Realising Rights to legal identity, fair and affordable proceedings and accessible legal information and assistance for all Indonesians, but will give special attention to women who are poor, vulnerable children and people with disabilities

Work will continue with existing partners and new partnerships will be formed as the program scope expands. The Asia Foundation has become an integral part of the AIPJ team, contributing ideas and supporting the strengthening of civil society organisations and disabled people’s organisations. Geographical coverage is also growing with AIPJ joining the Australian Indonesia Partnership for Decentralisation team in provincial offices in Mataram, Makassar and Kupang.  New activities will be supported at provincial and district levels from these offices making a more direct impact on the most vulnerable Indonesians.

AIPJ will continue to build partnerships between Indonesian and Australian legal institutions to help share knowledge and skills, build peer to peer relationships and to sustain the momentum for reform.
