Number of court decisions accessible to the public growing

"Transparency will improve the public perception of a clean judicial system," said Mataram's Chairman of the High Court, H Rozie Fachrul. He was speaking at the opening of a workshop to train staff to upload court files to the Supreme Court’s website: http://putusan.mahkamahagung.go.id. The workshop was organized by the Supreme Court and the Judicial Reform Team with support from AIPJ.

Following the Mataram workshop, training was held in Makassar on 24-25 June 2013 and Medan on 15-17 July 2013. A total of 170 staff from 85 courts in 7 provinces (NTT, NTB, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, and North Sumatra) have uploaded thousands of files.

This is a remarkable achievement considering that in 2009 when the collection of data began it was not evenly implemented by all courts in Indonesia. Courts in NTT and NTB had only uploaded 631 files, and four of these courts had never uploaded any files. In June 2013, the courts have uploaded 3,060 decisions - five times higher than the initial figure. This reflects strong staff commitment to a modern and transparent court system.
