Helping families receive fair compensation for their land

Over 1,500 families from South Petukangan, Jakarta, had their houses and land acquired by the government to build a new toll road.

LBH Jakarta’s interventions on their behalf saw the offer raised from 900,000 ($90) per square meter to 2 million rupiah ($200)per square meter.

Most of the families accepted this offer, but 140 families asked LBH Jakarta to take further legal action. A series of judgements and appeals led to the creation of a Compensation Committeehold consultations with residents groups. In December 2013 the 140 families accepted a substantially increased compensation for their properties.
