Protecting migrant workers from fraud

A company in Bali promised Canadian working visas if applicants placed a $5000 security deposit, but their 12 month contracts expired without any applicants going to Canada.

A group of 52 victims asked LBH Bali to help them claim their money - a total of $120,000.  LBH Bali made representations to the police and the Department of Work Relations, urging prosecution of the companies and return of the full amount to the victims.

The manager of the company was charged with fraud and the criminal case is still proceeding against him. So far the less than half of the claim has been recovered and LBH Bali continues to assist the victims to pursue the rest of their funds.
