Key Achievements: January-June 2013

Visit of the UN Special Rapporteur for Disabilities influenced coordination between DPOs.

Key partner achievements which AIPJ has contributed to during the period include:

1. Accreditation and verification of 310 legal aid organisations nationally to extend State funded legal aid beyond court provided pos bakum services for the first time in Indonesia;

2. AIPJ's national DPO partner SIGAB, supported a woman with a disability who was sexually abused through investigation, prosecution and court processes resulting in conviction of perpetrator for 8 years;

3. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Religious Court and Ministry of Religious Affairs on how to provide integrated, same-day marriage legalisation and marriage certificate services, particularly at village level;

4. Uploading of 1708 decisions in provincial courts during on the job training sessions (from a zero base previously);

5. AGO committed to public outreach campaign and evidence-based policy development and resourcing based on analysis of the ideal prosecution office;

6. Chief Justice commenced restructuring the Supreme Court to promote greater specialisation of judges and accountability of panel decisions, and to reallocate court officials in line with workload;

7. High Level Panel of Eminent Persons (co-chaired by Indonesian President) included legal identity as proposed new Millennium Development Goal after advocacy by legal identity team;

8. Visit of the UN Special Rapporteur for Disabilities, supported by AIPJ, influenced coordination between DPOs and attracted media and political attention to disability rights, including from the Jakarta Governor;

9. AIPJ Partnership Conference in April involved presentation by Indonesian partner organisations on activities relating to each of AIPJ's end of program outcomes, and helped ensure partners understood AIPJ's Realising Rights agenda. Partners are now confident to drive AIPJ support to meet their priorities;

10. National and provincial Civil Society Organisation (CSO) and Disabled Persons Organisation (DPO) partners selected by The Asia Foundation and AIPJ program teams;

11. Baseline research for legal identity completed in five provinces; and

12. Commencement of NTB Office with NTT and South Sulawesi to start in August.
